“When we learn how to become resilient, we learn how to embrace the beautifully broad spectrum of the human experience.” – Jaeda Dewalt

As an undergraduate student, I have worked customer service since 2019 in the restaurant industry. I find the interpersonal skills I have acquired, such as communication and dependability, to be important qualities of success and leadership. In the summer of 2020, I began a blog and social media page (Instagram: @resiliencebyv) that advocates for mental health. Advocacy leads to improvement in policy, service development, and legislation which is something I find value in with mental health being a public health issue.  My passion for mental health goes back farther than that. Even as a child I was conscious of the well being of others and did my best to encourage others to speak to counselors in school when I knew they were struggling. I intend to major in psychology and minor in public health. Moreover, I strive to continue to take Spanish courses in order to obtain interpreter certification so I can also serve as a translator to avoid language barriers in my practice. As a Puerto Rican woman, I have a deeper understanding of Hispanic and Latin culture and how it influences lifestyle. The shared language between individuals enables a more accurate direction when it comes to communication. When I am not working or blogging, I enjoy painting, drawing, and keeping up with true crime podcasts such as Crime Junkies.
